Mono® NOV not galled by the challenge at Grampian Foods

The installation of a Widethroat Mono pump at Grampian Country Food Group's chicken processing plant in Flintshire has made a significant contribution in enabling the plant to expand its processing capabilities.

Mono's installation is now pumping the plant's waste chicken offal faster and further and has played its part in increasing the productivity of the site.
The plant at Sandycroft in Flintshire, is one of Grampian's larger chicken processing facilities. The installed Mono Widethroat pump is designed to handle highly viscous materials such as sludges, slurries and thick non-flowing pastes with viscosities up to 1,000,000cP. The new pump replaced Grampian's existing pump and can handle a variety of media which had been a problem for the previous system.
The Widethroat W Range pump incorporates an enlarged inlet hopper and screw conveyor that pushes the waste material into the pumping element. Optional features include large diameter augers and integral bridge breakers which allow the pumps to effectively handle high solids content. The positive displacement action of the W Range pump makes it ideal for use with bulky materials, such as animal
by-products, brewery waste and fruit and vegetable waste. The gentle rotary action generates pressure at any speed and does not require centrifugal force or high rotational speeds to operate effectively. This also eliminates large changes in the velocity of the pumped material, minimises any agitation and turbulence and provides a consistent flow.
Like all Mono progressing cavity pumps, the Widethroat W Range models can be used with a Muncher to provide a highly efficient macerating and pumping integrated waste processing system.
Grampian strives to maintain the highest standards in all areas of its extensive operations and its requirements regarding food handling and hygienic and efficient processes, Mono was able to offer equipment and service which more than met their needs.
Melvin Griffiths, Engineering Systems Coordinator at the Flintshire plant is greatly impressed with the service provided by Mono, "The quality of the service and equipment combined with excellent aftersales service mean we would happily return to Mono in the future".
Grampian Country Foods Group is one of Europe's leading food companies and the UK's primary privately owned business producing fresh and frozen food products to the food service sector.
