Gowrie Growers
Established in 1986, when founder Robbie Wilson rented four acres of land on his father's dairy farm to grow niche lettuces and other vegetables, Gowrie Growers soon became the first choice for a wide range of customers. And, when the company branched out into the more exotic crops, like red lettuce, mange tout and Kohl Rabi; and later into the wholesale market, supplying fruit and vegetables to the catering trade, the seeds were well and truly sown for one of the industry's most notable success stories.

In 1994, Gowrie Growers concentrated on growing broccoli and now produce over 1800 tonnes annually for the wholesale and catering trades, as well as for export all over Europe. More recently it acquired a fruit and vegetable supplier in Perth.

The business is divided into three main divisions, Farms: Wholesale and Easiprep, with the latter being one of the most exciting developments within Gowrie Growers in recent years. Easiprep was launched to meet the demand for high quality prepared fresh produce for the food service and retail sector, together with the wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, ready meal manufacturers and vegetable processors.

Starting in 2002 with the aid of a processing and marketing grant from SEERAD, Easiprep soon found a loyal base of customers and quickly expanded to employ 20 full-time staff. Last year, the division processed over 5000 tonnes of potatoes alone. Like the wholesale division, Easiprep supports local producers, offering them an outlet for their sub-prime produce.

Overall, Gowrie Growers impact on the region has been significant. They provide a much-needed service for a wide-variety of food service businesses in the area, while raising the profile of local growers. In fact, the company's produce is among the finest you'll find anywhere, whilst its service is efficient and its people a pleasure to deal with.
