J&J Wines Limited

One of the great success stories of he last 10 years, J&J Wines has grown dramatically since it first opened its doors for business, operating out of a home garage and offering a limited selection of stock.

Today, having moved into a new 21,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility in Southall in October 2006, the company operates a full cash and carry and delivered service, dealing in over 6000 lines of grocery, alcohol, beer and non-food goods.

Established in 1980, as a new division of the Amalgamated Metal Corporation Family run and owned, J&J Wines is renowned for offering the best ways at the best prices, which was fuelled recently when it joined the Landmark Wholesale Group.

Owner Jaswant Singh Sandhar explained: "We decided the time was right to join a group and Landmark Wholesale was the perfect choice for us. From day one we have had so much support and advice from the Landmark team that we feel very confident about the future with them. Other members have also lent their support which has been invaluable as we make this huge transition."

It’s a transition that has seen it locate right next door to one of its biggest rivals, too! But having Bestway as a neighbour is not as big a problem for Jaswant as you would expect; in fact the team at J&J Wines see having their biggest rival next door as a bonus.

He explained: "It's certainly not affected us being located where we are. It's a common fact that retailers use several wholesalers and therefore it's natural that retailers coming to the area to use Bestway will also drop in to us and vice versa. It also means we have to be competitive in our pricing and that can only help independent retailers as a whole. We know that since our move we have increased our customer base and continue to do so.

"We also have the bonus of stocking Landmark Wholesale's own label ranges which help give us an identity and a point-of-difference that sets us apart from the other major wholesalers in the area. In the short space of time that we have been a member of Landmark Wholesale, our sales of Prince Consort, the own brand range of spirits, and its Vintners Collection of wines are incredibly healthy and becoming increasingly popular with our customers."

Martin Williams, Managing Director of Landmark Wholesale, added: "We are delighted to welcome Jaswant and his team at J&J Wines to the Landmark Wholesale group. The confidence that J&J Wines has shown, going head to head with such a well known competitor is extremely encouraging, and demonstrates the company's commitment to independent retailing. Indeed, in the first year sales show that it is thriving on this competition, and with Landmark Wholesale's support there is no reason why J&J Wines cannot further develop and grow.

J&J Wines is, then, moving forward impressively, offering an Aladdin’s Cave of products in tandem with unrivalled industry expertise. Take Landmark’s Hot House retail programme, for instance, designed to regenerate the independent retail sector. Supported by over 30 suppliers and endorsed by the Landmark membership, Hot House is a professional store redevelopment programme offering retailers impartial advice on store re-fits, range rationalisation, layout, merchandising, pricing and technology.

A dedicated team works with the wholesalers, suppliers and retailers to deliver Hot House solutions. Currently there are over 700 Hot House conversions completed with 2500 scheduled to be completed by April 2010. The benefits for retailers are clear, and include increased retail sales and development of a profitable market that it constantly under pressure.

Of course, none of this would be possible without J&J Wines’ highly professional and motivated people; a team that really does add value, not only to the company itself, but also to its customers. They’re a friendly bunch too, ensuring that everyone gets exactly what they need at the right price … and bang on time!

Let’s face it, as a customer you want to be more than just another number on an order book. You want a personal service from people who know your business and what demands you face on a day to day basis. You want a service that responds quickly to your needs. And perhaps most of all you want an extremely wide range of products at great prices. Well, J&J wines offers all of that and more.
