Intelligent Dining Fuels Growth

ARAMARK/Campbell Catering, the Irish division of the ARAMARK Corporation, a world leader in providing award-winning food and facilities management services, is Ireland's premier contract catering services company, with a 46% share of the Irish market and employing around 3700 staff in 420 locations throughout the length and breadth of the country.

With a mission to delight its customers by providing excellent products and customer service, ARAMARK/Campbell Catering is a very dynamic organisation operating in a fiercely competitive marketplace, the acquisition of Campbell Catering by ARAMARK, helps bring the business to a position where it can take the next step and really expand.

And business is good at the present time … very good. Over the past 12 months, for instance, ARAMARK/Campbell Catering has generated over 25 million euros worth of new business. Indeed, the company provides award-winning food and facilities management services across several industries, incorporating healthcare, government, business and industry, sports and entertainment, and education. It continues to grow too, with managing director Joan O'Shaughnessy explaining: “We are confident in the growth of our business because we see ourselves as innovative. We continue to attract some fantastic new management and new blood into the business and spend a lot of time working on the quality of our product offering.”

This was underlined recently when ARAMARK/Campbell Catering achieved a major quality milestone, marking Galway University Hospital’s (GUH) unparalleled commitment to meticulous food safety management on behalf of its patients, staff and visitors.

ARAMARK/Campbell Catering’s food safety management procedures at GUH are among the very first in Europe to receive the flagship ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems Standard. The award is a signal to all hospital users of the high standards of quality, hygiene and food preparation. Rigorous auditing of systems in the ARAMARK/Campbell Catering facilities on site at GUH was conducted by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), resulting in the prestigious accreditation.

Joan O’Shaughnessy commented: “Food safety has always been and remains a major priority for Campbell Catering. We’re acutely aware that our customers’ expectations of us are high, particularly in a hospital setting, where nutrition plays such a vital part of recuperation and recovery. This certification is a guarantee to patients, their families and the staff at GUH that food prepared here at our facility is done so in accordance with strict regulations.”

Pat Commins, Deputy General Manager of GUH said: “Achieving the ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems Standard is testament to the dedication of the ARAMARK/Campbell Catering team with whom we’ve enjoyed an extremely successful 12 years here at Galway University Hospital. Hospital users have an assurance that the food preparation systems here are award winning. I commend all of the ARAMARK/ Campbell Catering staff for their efforts.”

ARAMARK/Campbell Catering has picked up several awards this year, including from The Heart Foundation, which is a great achievement when you consider that the company serve somewhere in the region of 250,000 meals a day. Of course, all of this wouldn’t be possible without a highly skilled and dedicated team. That’s why the company has such a huge focus on training and development, which has helped to produce a workforce that continually adds strength to the organisation – and that’s something it is very proud of.

As the company moves forward it is looking to grow its market share across all sectors, but particularly healthcare and education. And this will be fuelled by extensive research and development, including food forums and a vast amount of work with its chefs. The outcome of these ensure the company’s continued philosophy of not only exciting, healthy and nutritious meals, but also the importance of such practices as baking and grilling as opposed to deep fat frying. Or to put it another way, ‘intelligent dining’. With offices in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Belfast, ARAMARK/Campbell Catering can genuinely claim to part of the local community, with a full understanding of both its customers and its social responsibilities. Indeed, treating customers as long-term partners and each other with honesty and respect, ARAMARK/Campbell Catering is one company that does everything with integrity.
