"We believe in providing a total and efficient service," says Matt Bonfield, Managing Director, "and this includes efficient and prompt deliveries."
But one of the problems facing the company is how to make those efficient deliveries when many of the customers need their building supplies delivered to remote or inaccessible properties around Dartmoor.
"This is a problem facing anyone making deliveries around the Moor, but we think we have come up with an interesting solution," said Matt.
Hilton Supplies have just taken delivery of a new Volvo truck, but not just any Volvo truck. The new vehicle, a Volvo FLL 240 15T, has been specially specified by Hilton Supplies to make it "Moor" friendly. This has included such minute details as having the tailgate and sides mounted internally and having the vehicle fitted with narrower wheels, all to reduce the overall width of the truck so that it is more practical for deliveries to relatively inaccessible properties.
To make the delivery of building materials more practical the Volvo has been fitted with the latest HIAB XS 077 remote control loader crane, one of the most versatile lifting devices available. The combination of the remote control HIAB and the specially built truck enables Hilton Supplies to deliver even bulky heavy building materials to inaccessible properties.
Hilton Supplies have not just concentrated on practicality however. The new vehicle looks good too, finished in their distinctive red and gold colours with the company's logo on the front, sides and rear.
"Our aim has always been that if a car can get to the point of delivery then so can our vehicle. It has been really interesting working closely with both Volvo and HIAB to build a vehicle to meet our specific requirements. I would never have thought that kind of flexibility would have been available to an independent builders merchant on Dartmoor!"

Hilton Supplies stock a full range of building materials and DIY requirements, including specialist products such as lime plaster to suit the many older properties in the area.
