P. Farrow & Sons has been
in existence since the 1950's and is now being
run by second and third generations of the Farrow
family - Peter Farrow, his sons Jack and Rob and
their sister Roseanne. The metals processing facility
at Swinton, near Malton in North Yorkshire handles
around 300 tonnes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
every week from delivered scrap and end-of-life
vehicles as well as materials collected by Farrow's
own fleet of trucks.
The new Liebherr is the lynchpin
of the materials handling procedures on site
and its mobility comes in useful for operating
at the processor, receiving bays and stockpiles.
Once in position, the A 904C HD works on hydraulic
outriggers, giving excellent reach and height
performance while providing lifting duties of
10 tonnes at 4.5 metres radius and 4.9 tonnes
at 9 metres radius.
Jack Farrow commented "We
had seen Liebherr machines at work on other metals
processing sites and been impressed with their
performance...and we were also well aware of Liebherr's
good reputation. This is why we chose to buy our
first one and we are very pleased with it." P.
Farrow & Sons receive scrap metals and ELV's
from the whole of Yorkshire, sorting, shearing
and baling for onward sale to merchants throughout
the north of England.
The A 904C HD Litronic taken
by Farrow's is a 24.20 tonnes machine and features
a heavy-duty wheeled undercarriage with outriggers
for exceptional stability and lifting capacities.
The engine is a Liebherr made model developing
105kW. The industrial monobloc boom is 7.10 metres
in length, the stick is a 5 metres industrial angled
type with hydraulic rotation for the Type 65 grab
attachment and the hoist cylinders are equipped
with load-holding valves. The heavy-duty eight-wheeled
undercarriage has solid tyres and the four stabilisers
are hydraulically operated. An automatic central
lubrication system has been supplied.
The cab is hydraulically elevating
for the best possible operating visibility, which
is particularly useful for loading and unloading
high-sided vehicles and feeding the shear baler,
giving the operator an ideal raised line-of-sight
for maximum operating safety and accuracy.
The luxurious yet functional cab
is air-conditioned with air-suspended seat, radio
set, full instrumentation and Litronic engine and
hydraulics management system, with associated monitor
for real-time read-out of machine performance and
condition; there is also an overload warning system
installed. The front windscreen has armoured glass
and is further protected by a pane protection guard.
