The association first opened
its doors for business in 1998 when a transfer
of housing stock took place from Scottish Homes.
And for the past eight years the aim has always
been the same; to provide homes at social rent
levels, taking into account that its tenants may
be eligible for assistance with meeting their rental
payments through housing benefits.
Paragon Housing Association has
a programme of planned maintenance and improvement
to ensure that its housing stock is kept in good
condition and meets the needs of its tenants. It
holds its own waiting list for prospective tenants
and assists local authorities in meeting the local
demand for housing by accepting nominations for
vacant properties from their waiting lists.
Membership of the association
is open to all tenants and people who can contribute
to meeting the aims of the organisation. It has
around 500 members currently and it only costs £1.00 to join for life. In
addition, there is a professional staff of 22 people
and the association is run by a volunteer management
committee. Its rules ensure that the majority of
its management committee are tenants.
Paragon Housing Association is
a member of Scottish Federation of Housing Associations,
Employers in Voluntary Housing and SHARE, which
is an organisation, which provides training to
housing professionals and volunteers. To find out
