Ethos Recycling

First opening its doors for business in 1993 in order to make a positive impact on the environment by looking at ways of reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, as well as developing environmentally sustainable waste solutions, South East of England based Ethos Recycling has set a new standard for the industry.

Put simply, the company’s growth over the years has been due to three simple beliefs. Firstly, it believes that its clients are its most important assets and that relationships must be consciously cultivated and maintained on a foundation of trust and integrity. Second, it believes in delivering maximum value to its clients every day. And thirdly, Ethos Recycling believes that in order to best serve its clients, its employees must be the finest in the industry. They must bring a client's project together with a keen focus on economy, speed and quality.

Ethos Recycling is an environmentally friendly provider of waste management services which specialises in:

• The collection and recycling of construction waste through a range of skip, rollonoff and compaction vehicles. The company currently manages two recycling facilities in Greater London: a state of the art recycling facility near Heathrow Airport in West London, which recycles 85% of its waste input month after month, and a transfer station in Barking in East London, a stone's throw away from the 2012 Olympic Park.

• Land regeneration activity using some of the materials recovered from
the recycling facility.

• Aggregate and muck away service.

• In vessel composting and bio drying system.

The company also offers a nationwide collection and disposal service for hazardous and 'difficult to handle' waste through Ethos Special Waste. Whatever the challenge though, Ethos Recycling is keen to work in partnership with its clients, supporting them in the need to meet their requirements linked to the future implementation of Site Waste Management Plans.
This commitment to quality workmanship has attracted a number of blue-chip clients, such as Laing O'Rourke, Mace, Morgan Est, Kier, Clipfine, Alandale, and BAA (British Airports Authority). This has naturally involved the company in many prestigious and important projects. In 2002, for example, BAA awarded Ethos Recycling the contract for the removal and recycling of construction waste from the Heathrow Terminal 5 building site, one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken in the UK.

Laing O’Rourke had a key construction roll in the project, with Nathan Gray, Laing O'Rourke T5 Waste Manager, giving the following verdict on Ethos Recycling’s work: "From the word go, at tendering stage, they demonstrated innovation. I was also very impressed with their understanding of construction waste. I'm delighted with their recycling record on T5 (which has averaged 85%) and at times exceeded 88%. In my extensive experience of waste management this recycling record is second to none."

On the back of the outstanding work done on this project, Ethos Recycling assisted BAA to clinch an Environmental Award at the CIWM Awards for Environmental Excellence in 2007. BAA and Ethos Recycling took the prize for Construction and Demolition Site Management.

Ethos Recycling has also just been awarded a contract with M&S for the recycling of construction waste out of 27 stores being remodelled or developed, in the South of England. Ethos Recycling are supporting and working with M&S to plan and become a zero waste to landfill company.

Ethos Recycling is always looking to set new standards, raising the bar regularly with fresh, innovation solutions. It has, for instance, developed a unique recycling process that currently enables the company to recycle 85% of its waste output. This figure should rise to 90% during 2008 with the introduction of new equipment. It’s an impressive figure, and one that has been fuelled by the fact that, for many years, Ethos Recycling has been working very closely with key partners such as Turmec Engineering, Nihot And Heil in order to improve its recycling processes.

Indeed, it has become something of a pioneer and is, for instance, one of the first waste recycling companies to invest in and implement a 'paperless ticketing' system, which provides a number of important benefits, including vastly improved security.

Developed in partnership with P&L, the new system has allowed drivers to gradually stop using paper Waste Transfer Notes, with clients now being asked to input their full name and sign for the note electronically on a secure handheld device. An electronic Waste Transfer Note is then automatically produced on Ethos Recycling’s computer system and emailed to the client. The system benefits the client in several ways:

• It is paperless
• Tickets can’t be lost as they are stored electronically, and can thus be reproduced if required
• Tickets can be shared and sent around to various locations, thereby saving time
• It is secure
• It is fault proof

Ethos Recycling continues to grow, having recently opened a second facility in East London, it is planning to expand its network across the South of England. A major new site, for example, will open in Oxfordshire within the first quarter of 2008.

The company is also introducing new services, now collecting and recycling plasterboard in and around London. In addition, it has added the collection and disposal of special waste nationwide to its portfolio, underlining its desire to become the leading environmentally friendly waste recycling company in the UK.

Ethos Recycling is a progressive company that utilises the most efficient techniques and years of field experience, coupled with the latest project management skills, to complete quality projects on, or ahead, of schedule and within its customers' budgets.

It is the company’s philosophy that true customer satisfaction can only be achieved when it meets or exceeds its clients' expectations for project cost, schedule, and quality. Ethos Recycling’s proven track record of customer satisfaction is a testament to the fact that it is willing and able to meet its customer's needs.
